Soon the tiger has dispatched all but Pi, whose fear, knowledge, and cunning allow him to coexist with Richard Parker for 227 days lost at sea. When they finally reach the coast of Mexico, Richard Parker flees to the jungle, never to be seen again. The Japanese authorities who interrogate Pi refuse to believe his story and press him to tell them "the truth." After hours of coercion, Pi tells a second story, a story much less fantastical, much more conventional-but is it more true?

Life of Pi is at once a realistic, rousing adventure and a meta-tale of survival that explores the redemptive power of storytelling and the transformative nature of fiction. It's a story, as one character puts it, to make you believe in God.

扬•马特尔（Yann Martel）

一九六三年出生于西班牙，父母是加拿大人。幼时曾旅居哥斯达黎加、法国、墨西哥、加拿大，成年后作客伊朗、土耳其及印度。毕业于加拿大特伦特大学哲学系，其后从事过各种稀奇古怪的行业，包括植树工、洗碗工、保安等。

仍然记得当年坐在德班的电影院里看电影时候的震撼，一直想读原文，没想到时隔几年才花了3个月把原文看完了，所有的事情只有去做才有实现的可能，生存也好，阅读也好，在绝境中坚持，正好现在也碰到了大问题，希望能慢慢的和Pi一样的度过去。感觉可以再读的一本书。话说李安增加了一些原著没有的情节，加上电影的特技呈现的一些想象，书和电影都很喜欢，各有不同

读完Life of Pi，厘清了不少看完电影后产生的困惑，也愈加佩服Yann Martel。他不仅讲了一个精彩的故事，而且文笔出色，读的时候经常有满满一页都想抄到笔记本上的冲动。不少人读完此书后，花了大笔精力探讨第一、第二个故事孰真孰假。可我却觉得，全书的前1/3更值得细细品味。...
