The second edition of Annette Lareau's Unequal Childhoods contains contains the classic analysis of how social class shapes parenting and revisits the original families a decade after the original study to examine the effects of social class in the transition to adulthood.
作者简介
安妮特·拉鲁(Annette Lareau)，加州大学社会学学士(1974)，伯克利大学社会学硕士(1978)，伯克利大学社会学博士(1984)，1990-2005年为天普大学社会学教授，2005-2008年为马里兰大学社会学教授，2008年被聘为宾夕法尼亚大学社会学教授。其主要研究领域为社会分层、家庭教育、民族志方法、儿童，主要关注非裔美国人与欧裔美国人的日常生活研究。代表作为《不平等的童年》，此外还著有《家庭优势》(Home Advantage，2000，获美国社会学协会教育社会学分会Willard Waller奖)等。

This book identifies the largely invisible but powerful ways that parents’ social class impacts children’s life experiences. It shows, using in-depth observations and interviews with middle-class (including members of the upper-middle-class), working-class, and poor families, that inequality permeates the fabric of the culture.

评分很多case study,第二版还新增了当年被研究儿童10年后的发展，很有意思的书，人与人真是与生俱来的不平等。
评分社会学intro课的书。确实是质性研究经典，上课结合bourdieu的cultutal capital讲的，确实很贴合Bourdieu理论，对于理解embodied cultural capital、阶级再生产颇有助益。但是，lareau在最重要的一环：学生和school institution的互动上，也就是说她的outcome variable中产阶级孩子在学校的entitledness其实没证据。然而这书也这么出了……
