大衛·波德維爾（David Bordwell，1947～）及其夫人剋裏斯汀·湯普森（Kristin Thompson，1950～），是當代美國重要的電影理論傢，美國威斯康辛—麥迪遜大學傳播藝術係榮譽教授，法國電影資料館（Cinemathèque Française）顧問，國際電影學界最多産、最偉大的教科書編纂者之一。波德維爾是“認知電影理論”的創始人，並以其對小津安二郎、愛森斯坦等人的“作者”研究、電影敘事學、香港電影研究、電影風格史的研究而廣受尊敬；剋裏斯汀則是新形式主義電影分析理論的領軍人物，她的Breaking the Glass Armor（1988）是公認的新形式主義經典著作。
