威廉·肯尼迪（William Kennedy）
1928年威廉·肯尼迪齣生於美國紐約州的奧爾巴尼市。1969年他齣版瞭第一部小說《油墨車》，迄今為止已創作近十部優秀小說。他最為稱道的作品當屬“奧爾巴尼小說係列”，其中包括《怪腿戴厄濛》（1975）、《比利·費倫的最大一次賭博》（1978）、《紫苑草》（1983）、《昆因的書》（1988）、《老骨頭》（1992）、《燃燒的胸花》（1996》以及《羅斯科》（2002）。
為他贏得普利策文學奬和美國國傢書評奬的《紫苑草》在齣版前曾先後被退稿十三次，在諾貝爾文學奬得主索爾·貝婁的親自推薦下，纔得以順利齣版。此書齣版後立刻造成轟動，改編電影鏇即在1987年上映，由傑剋·尼剋爾森和梅麗爾·斯特裏普飾演書中主角，兩人並因此片獲得奧斯卡奬影帝和影後的提名殊榮。
肯尼迪對於傢鄉書寫的成就甚高，美國著名文化生活雜誌《名利場》贊譽：“詹姆斯·喬伊斯之於都柏林，索爾·貝婁之於芝加哥，正如威廉·肯尼迪之於奧爾巴尼。”
