《下岗女工身份的社会语言研究》由项蕴华著，改革、开放以来，新兴的社会群体不断涌现。其中，下岗女工的社会地位和职业生涯的变迁体现在其不断变化的身份中。作者综述了Labov的语言变异理论、言语社区理论、实践社区理论、身份的社会构建理论以及身份的叙事构建理论，从而构建了跨学科的、现实主义的视角。作者运用了个案分析方法、Bakhtin和Lemke的体裁分析方法、Labov的叙事分析评价模式以及批评性语篇分析等方法对相关政府文件、媒体报道和下岗女工本人的叙事语篇进行分析，指出下岗女工的社会身份是在特定的社会、文化和历史语境中形成的动态的、多重性的意义构建过程。本选题跨学科的理论和分析模式打破了社会学和语言学之间的界限，是当前国际上社会学中出现的“语言学转向”和语言学中有关社会变革研究的“社会学转向”的重要实践，对社会语言学研究具有一定的借鉴意义。
