充满对自然的刻画以及人和自然关系的隐喻，但其实关于“种地”这方面的描写并不多，更多的是这片土地上生活的人的关系的描写。Willa Cather原著语言很poetic，译者翻译的也很不错，语言柔和，而不是生硬的翻译腔。

评分O Pioneer! 读了四五遍，中文和英文。我曾经（大约七年前）第一次见到她（她和刘瑜在首都图书馆搞活动，她的文集刚出版）。活动结束后，我怀着无比激动的纯洁的文学青年的心，拿着这本被我翻得发黄、掉页的书拿给她签名，结果她冷酷得拒绝了，“只签新书”。随着这句话，单纯的文学青年小陶心碎了????……去年搬家，毫不犹豫地卖掉了她的所有文集，但还是拒绝这本书的回忆被她毁掉
评分印第安人的血与泪简直写的声色俱在！种种不公平待遇就是只许州官放火，不许百姓点灯！法律永远只是维护统治阶级的利益，美帝zf就是这样做了婊子还立牌坊。确实是佳作，笔锋如画。
评分小时候喜欢的薇拉.凯瑟，今天才发现翻译者是资中筠。
