印象最深的自然有毫无人性、存在于法律和社会约束之外的nature of slavery，还有看似满足幸福的歌谣隐藏着压迫深处的抗拒，religious hypocrisy of slavery，slaveholders众生相以及slavery对曾经善良的Sophia太太的人性改变，逃亡生与死的抉择和勇气，以及The Columbian Orator的启蒙、Sabbath school伙伴的羁绊，和唯有literacy，带给了Douglass以内在思索、对现实的反抗和对自由的向往，并给予了他武器以书写和宣讲自己的故事。坐在山脊上俯瞰广袤的Chesapeake Bay和往来船只，他喷薄而出那段震撼人心的控诉与渴望，he keeps faith and wills his own freedom.
