By contrast, “Madness” is narrated by Amar, an Iraqi-American man who, on his way to visit his brother in Kurdistan, is detained by immigration officers and spends the last weekend of 2008 in a holding room in Heathrow. These two seemingly disparate stories gain resonance as their perspectives interact and overlap, with yet new implications for their relationship revealed in an unexpected coda.

著者简介

Lisa Halliday has worked as a freelance editor and translator in Milan, where she lives with her husband. Her short story 'Stump Louie' appeared in The Paris Review in 2005, and she received a Whiting Award for Fiction in 2017. Asymmetry is her first novel.

故事讲述的方式很独特，但是没有一种沉溺其中的淋漓尽至。

为了找出第一部分和第二部分的关联才一路看到了最后…the folly part is banal, and the madness part is interesting. The third part is kitsch. 如果第二部分单独作为一本小说并且完整和充实一点我想我会打4星，然而整本书给人以东拼西凑之感，最后也没有让人眼前一亮的恍然大悟之感。第一部分price tag过多宛如在读小时代。

有讲两性关系中权力的imbalance，却没有提供任何新的观点，也不够透彻，三段之前太牵强，当畅销书随便读一读还好。

很精巧的结构，尖锐的观点——“War is God‘s way of teaching Americans geology.” 然而第二部分的确没有一、三写得好。

如果不是最后一个采访可能会给三星。第二部分的伊拉克寻亲记比较喜欢，故事叙述太过跳跃，不知道为毛评价那么高。
