Carl Zimmer is a columnist for the New York Times, writes for National Geographic and other magazines, and is the author of thirteen books, including Parasite Rex, Soul Made Flesh, and Microcosm. He is also a lecturer at Yale University, where he teaches writing about science and the environment.

纔一百多頁的病毒星球在豆瓣閱讀上竟然賣到三十多塊，被逼著隻能看原版瞭；介紹瞭煙草花葉病毒、人鼻病毒HRV，流感病毒，人乳頭瘤病毒HPV，噬菌體，內源性逆轉錄病毒ERV，HIV，西尼羅河病毒，埃博拉病毒，SARS病毒，MERS病毒，天花病毒，巨型病毒（其中兩個名字讓人印象深刻: mamavirus和mimivirus）
评分這本書真的太有趣瞭，書名是病毒星球，但是更像是簡述人類研究病毒的曆史，最讓我稱奇的是，我們的DNA裏麵竟然有這麼多病毒的貢獻，就連胎盤，我們作為哺乳動物的特徵之一，竟然也是因為某種病毒偶然進入我們祖先體內纔進化齣來的？！太有趣瞭。裏麵免不瞭會提到HIV, Ebola, SARS, MERS, 病毒從彆的物種跨越到人類很多次瞭，但看瞭這些舊病毒的進化優劣分析，還是會覺得我們現在麵對的，可謂是真的怪物新病毒。
