Carl Zimmer is a columnist for the New York Times, writes for National Geographic and other magazines, and is the author of thirteen books, including Parasite Rex, Soul Made Flesh, and Microcosm. He is also a lecturer at Yale University, where he teaches writing about science and the environment.

极其简单的科普，涵盖了病毒研究中的重要分支：测序考古，疫情控制，生化反应及免疫调控。还有些新近的病毒学研究进展，以及全书特别注重病毒与人类和生物进化方面的思考。 总体上衔接高中和专业课一年级水平，实验方法少，数据少，电镜照倒不少。 大方向上把握比较准确，虽然第二版也是2015写的，但也涵盖了非典，中东，埃博拉，牛瘟等等，也写了些冠状病毒族的预言

评分这本书真的太有趣了，书名是病毒星球，但是更像是简述人类研究病毒的历史，最让我称奇的是，我们的DNA里面竟然有这么多病毒的贡献，就连胎盘，我们作为哺乳动物的特征之一，竟然也是因为某种病毒偶然进入我们祖先体内才进化出来的？！太有趣了。里面免不了会提到HIV, Ebola, SARS, MERS, 病毒从别的物种跨越到人类很多次了，但看了这些旧病毒的进化优劣分析，还是会觉得我们现在面对的，可谓是真的怪物新病毒。
