Carl Zimmer is a columnist for the New York Times, writes for National Geographic and other magazines, and is the author of thirteen books, including Parasite Rex, Soul Made Flesh, and Microcosm. He is also a lecturer at Yale University, where he teaches writing about science and the environment.

极其简单的科普，涵盖了病毒研究中的重要分支：测序考古，疫情控制，生化反应及免疫调控。还有些新近的病毒学研究进展，以及全书特别注重病毒与人类和生物进化方面的思考。总体上衔接高中和专业课一年级水平，实验方法少，数据少，电镜照倒不少。大方向上把握比较准确，虽然第二版也是2015写的，但也涵盖了非典，中东，埃博拉，牛瘟等等，也写了些冠状病毒族的预言

•很好的科普读本有一点初高中生物知识就可以看懂 •语言平实叙述生动每一章篇幅不长有点像读公众号文章???? 甚至还有各种神转折???? •跟着作者了解了病毒与人类、动物相爱相杀的关系看完有种过瘾的感觉——这种感觉来自对自然界中基因复制交换这个伟大过程的敬畏也来自病毒对我们呼吸的空气、与胎生动物的潜在关联给我带来的惊讶总结作者的观点就是病毒有害也有益 •奇怪的知识大幅增加了

才一百多页的病毒星球在豆瓣阅读上竟然卖到三十多块，被逼着只能看原版了；介绍了烟草花叶病毒、人鼻病毒HRV，流感病毒，人乳头瘤病毒HPV，噬菌体，内源性逆转录病毒ERV，HIV，西尼罗河病毒，埃博拉病毒，SARS病毒，MERS病毒，天花病毒，巨型病毒（其中两个名字让人印象深刻: mamavirus和mimivirus）
