Carl Zimmer is a columnist for the New York Times, writes for National Geographic and other magazines, and is the author of thirteen books, including Parasite Rex, Soul Made Flesh, and Microcosm. He is also a lecturer at Yale University, where he teaches writing about science and the environment.

才一百多页的病毒星球在豆瓣阅读上竟然卖到三十多块，被逼着只能看原版了；介绍了烟草花叶病毒、人鼻病毒HRV，流感病毒，人乳头瘤病毒HPV，噬菌体，内源性逆转录病毒ERV，HIV，西尼罗河病毒，埃博拉病毒，SARS病毒，MERS病毒，天花病毒，巨型病毒（其中两个名字让人印象深刻: mamavirus和mimivirus）

评分这本书真的太有趣了，书名是病毒星球，但是更像是简述人类研究病毒的历史，最让我称奇的是，我们的DNA里面竟然有这么多病毒的贡献，就连胎盘，我们作为哺乳动物的特征之一，竟然也是因为某种病毒偶然进入我们祖先体内才进化出来的？！太有趣了。里面免不了会提到HIV, Ebola, SARS, MERS, 病毒从别的物种跨越到人类很多次了，但看了这些旧病毒的进化优劣分析，还是会觉得我们现在面对的，可谓是真的怪物新病毒。
