津巴布韋的學者對自己國傢曆史的敘述。並沒有局限在單一的民族主義視角下，而是將戰爭中的民族主義，種族主義或馬剋思主義等混亂的意識形態展現開來。翻譯有些地方略顯生硬，不過其實這是一本很好的地區研究著作（對不起看法變瞭！後殖民主義時期分析很精彩）雖然我現在對地區研究實在是沒興趣。

並無習焉不察的民族自決與反帝反殖的宏大敘事，本書藉助史料努力還原瞭津巴布韋從前殖民時代至今，不同階層、族群基於各自利益不斷作齣的鬥爭、妥協與放棄以及他們之間周而復始的結盟與分裂。因而雖然至今沒有衍生齣一套有效的利益均衡機製，但即使在穆加貝時代，津也未成為一個典型的專製國傢。

身份認同、利益調和、現代化追趕……多重目標下的艱難建國之路。這本是需要幾個世紀甚至上韆年纔能完成的任務，統統壓在非洲身上，其艱難、混亂、搖擺、危險可想而知，明天與意外哪個更先到來成為廣大非洲人民的命運寫照。當我們哀其不幸恕其不爭時，更應當給予其寬容與耐心，更重要的是教育上的幫助。
