三位学者合著，Beard和Price所著章节大体能猜出来，而后者对东部行省的研究也是之后要重点关照的对象。总的来说，作为通史，又出众手，在详略协调方面或多或少会出一些问题。早期罗马历史的记忆与虚构在Beard的笔下张弛有度；晚期共和国到帝国时期“诸宗教”（religions）的渐次展开，以及关于它们在信仰体系中的相对地位的论述十分引人入胜。
