Defining color is a simple matter-visible light of a particular wavelength. Or is it? It turns out that the pigments and dyes responsible for hues have many remarkable characteristics, most of which we rarely ponder. To delve into this book is to see the experimental, scientific side of the old masters and the artistic qualities of inventors and explorers. This is not a scientific work-those interested in rods and cones should look elsewhere. 从朋友那借这本书的时候是充满期待的，以为可以看到一个缤纷绚丽，妙趣横生又知识丰富的书，包含对于颜色的种种来龙去脉的描述。看了以后有点失望，不够缤纷：对于一本说颜色的书来说图片太少了；不够有趣：里面的故事说的都不是很生动。知识呢。。。。。不知道，因为上述两个...

与其说是“调色板的自然史”，不如说是作者寻找颜料的旅行手记，所以无关颜色的废话相当多，多到想从中提取有用信息都有些障碍重重。个人觉得整本书应该可以精简到250页左右。书中还有一些错误，书页margin处有不明数字（推测可能是原版的页码）。

这本应是一本很好的书。 这本书是介绍各个颜色的起源的。在没有化工颜料之前，人们怎样作画，印染？这本书就是探寻天然颜料的起源的。 可惜的是，作者不是一个有经验的科普读物作家，她是个热爱颜色的研究生，为了探寻颜料的起源；她做了无数次寻访之旅。这本书倒不如说是她...
