著者簡介

W.Richard Stevens，國際知名的UNIX和網絡專傢，備受贊譽的技術作傢。他1951年2月5日齣生於贊比亞，後隨父母迴到美國。中學時就讀於弗吉尼亞菲什伯恩軍事學校，1973年獲得密歇根大學航空和航天工程學士學位。1975年至1982年，他在亞利桑那州圖森市的基特峰國傢天文颱從事計算機編程工作，業餘時間喜愛飛行運動，做過兼職飛行教練。這期間他分彆在1978年和1982年獲得亞利桑那大學係統工程碩士和博士學位。此後他去康涅狄格州紐黑文的健康係統國際公司任主管計算機服務的副總裁。1990年他迴到圖森，從事專業技術寫作和谘詢工作。寫下瞭多種經典的傳世之作，包括《TCP／IP詳解》(三捲)、《UNlX環境高級編程》和《UNI×網絡編程》(兩捲)。Stevens於1999年9月1日去世，年僅48歲。2000年他被國際權威機構USENIX追授“終身成就奬”。

第一遍感觉不是很好，后来一段时间看了另外一套丛书《用tcp/ip实现网际互联》，然后看了steves的《Unix网络编程》，“始惊，次醉，终狂”，慢慢习惯了steves的风格，又返回来看这本书，无以复加的经典！几乎是逐字逐句的看，生怕遗漏什么。

发现译者的一个低级错误：P212,图20-4中的文字“能够发送ASAP”，ASAP是“As Soon As Possible”的缩写，估计译者不知道ASAP是什么意思，而以为是个什么技术名词，所以就没有翻译，低级错误啊。

翻译基本太差，最后出版前也没审稿，几个博士硕士翻译一下，挂上导师的名就出版了，第一版应该是2000年出的吧，我手上是2013年第一版第40次印刷，十多年了，印了这么多次，都不修订，也没有勘误，钱拿到手就不管了，误人子弟呀。本来一本好书弄成这样，不知道还有没有其他人翻...

这是我读过的第一本网络的书，没有压力，书很不错，理论与实践相结合，虽然书中有些翻译的不是很到位，但是如果真的理解了书中的内容，很容易就能揣测出书中这正表达的意思，翻译问题也根本就不是问题了，很喜欢TCP讲解那几章，建议做网络编程相关的人都读一下，超值！
