本以為在鼕天裏偷得一點夏意，最後竟終於劍橋之鞦。青春是地下室冰箱裏滿溢的瓜果。Actually we did not have the feelings we said we had until we spoke them- at least I didn’t; to phrase them was to invent them and own them. Poor little Julie was lost in the photo-painter’s Platonic idea of childhood; her tiny humanity was smothered somewhere back of gobs of pink and white.

後麵的幾個短篇比【再見，哥倫布】嚴肅，但都是宗教主題，說教意味有點濃。同名的中篇，算是青春文學。年輕人總是通過認識愛情，來認識自己對生活的態度。

我喜歡Neil在教堂的祈禱，他問what is it I love, Lord?很難講究竟誰在掌控誰，最後的分手又是不是早有居心命中注定。最美的一幕是第4章Brenda和Neil輪流遊泳，“if I stayed away too long she would not be there when I returned.” 這種對生命和愛情的不安太驚艷，於是皮格馬利翁的雕像有瞭生命。

For Neil, Columbus is his subconscious love for Jew. He wants to integrate into American society, that is why he has a crash on Brenda. On the other hand, the Jewish personalities subconsciously affect him, that is why he leaves Brenda. So , for Neil, how to be a Jew?
