Redefining naturalism as an artisanal engagement with nature through bodily experience to gain practical knowledge, before such ideal was eclipsed by Enlightenment elision of body. A nicely argued book, Part II on Paracelsus is esp strong, loved the idea of a guided tour into Sylvius' house.

标记这本书的时候发现常用标签居然大多是艺术史，其实作者最主要的贡献还是在近代早期科技史领域。在跟Pamala Smith教授谈起工匠与科学革命的问题时，她说，我确实在这本书里讨论了很多艺术方面的问题，所以我不清楚别人是否明白了我真正的意图是什么。不过话说回来，在前近代技术史的研究中，技术与艺术总是密不可分的。
