感觉作者似乎不太喜欢中国，但仍然是一本了解当代中国很好的书。对于书中的故事，Benjamin L. Liebman的话似乎很适用："China is seeking to establish a system of controlled transparency, where some of the benefits of greater scrutiny of official action can be obtained without undermining confidence in the state or encouraging direct challenges to Party rule."

Inspiring though bias. The story on Falun Gong was fascinating.

三篇一篇比一篇好 也比《中國的靈魂》好 畢竟最後一篇是得普利策獎的 有一點蠻強的 就採訪的過程的很多艱辛 處理得很輕描淡寫 有些作者會弄得太用力

读完作者得普利策奖的报道的chapter(em...)好的是作者写的很中立，对正反的观点都做到了深度调查，自己也没有一味的吹大法，也努力去解释为什么最后是这样。从调查的难度来说也是常人无法想象。从文风来说的话，从读文章开始我就有一种被压的喘不过气来的感觉……虽然作者不煽情。对于一篇外国人的调查报道写的是足够好了，但是对于一个深入这个文化的人从社会学角度来看思考地还是不够
