課上精讀過第一段之後念念不忘，終於在電視劇齣來後找到瞭電子書罪惡發生在普羅旺斯的一個夏天……作者以一種幾乎疏離的語氣敘述那個經曆，有更深沉的傷痛和體悟。那個莊園是多麼壓抑呀！但又難以逃離，就如光也無法逃離黑洞的引力。 Striking to say: the goal is ennui....反諷，愛瑪拼命想逃離的東西是二十世紀末貴族追求的。

first book of Patrick Melrose series, about his childhood in French countryside. The horrible pressure that David put on Eleanor, Patrick and people around. “Everything in the world is about sex except sex. Sex is about power.”

作者對人性十足厭倦，刻畫人物如手術刀般冷靜，又同時帶著同情的意味。諷刺辛辣，但也不過分憤世嫉俗。文字精緻輕巧，語感一流。固然這本書裏的人和事都很喪，卻仍然讓人手不釋捲。唯一不足是過於私人瞭點，可能作者本意就是寫給孩童的自己吧，我拿來打發時間，誤會也是在所難免。
