This book asked a question: What kind of life is worth living for? It is interesting to see that Lo-Tsen fell for Mallinson not Conway...and Conway chose to get out of the village just because he wanted to help Mallinson and eventually "flee from wisdom and be a hero". One of the saddest ending I've ever read.

评分I read it years ago. It used to be my favorite English novel. I'm re-reading it now. It's still good and worth recommending. But I already know the ending, it's not attracting anymore.
