卡尔·波兰尼（Karl Polany，1886-1964）是20世纪公认的最彻底、最有辨识力的经济史学家。当法西斯主义兴起时，他离开了出生的匈牙利，成为英国公民。在其学术生涯中，曾先后在牛津大学的本宁顿学院和伦敦大学教书。著有《法西斯主义的本质》、《大转型》和《达荷美和奴隶贸易》(与A．罗特施泰因合作)等作品。

牛！宏觀視野的經濟學著作，同時又歷史知識豐富，揭示了第一、二次工業革命的"self-regulating"市場的共同社會心理，而且還字裡行間飽含著濃濃的人本主義情懷，極其尊重地方性知識。卡爾和麥克這倆波蘭尼兄弟應該是從小互相在學術上砥礪著長大的吧？

大家手笔。Market society的发生和演进，内在的总体性危机和悖论。觉得还是前半部，从经济体系、market pattern的演进到Speenhamland law写得好。。。对double movement复杂历史展开过程的论证还是主要走labor的路子

不是读经济史或者对经济史，经济思想不感兴趣的，千万别看这书。这不是一本通俗容易理解的著作，尽管他的思想性很强。
