很久沒暢快淋灕的讀過上韆頁的小說瞭，雖然讀完結尾時悵然若失瞭好一會兒，但是也倒沒有讀戰爭與和平時絕對的情感熱烈投入。無法完全投入是因為作者本身帶著現代作傢的淡然淺薄，他的主人公也都不會有掏心掏肺的情感體驗，得到和失去都輕淡的水過無痕，好似從未發生，也並不很期待再次發生。

小說中滿是愛情、曆史和幽默，但是支撐這部小說的是賽斯的纔華，他能創作齣似是而非的人物，也能深度剖析印度人的傢庭生活，為瞭達到這個目標他必須從自己生活的圈子裏發掘人物。
