I place the fishes on the bank, where they flop and twirl. 'Don't be scared,' I tell those fishes. 'I am saving you from drowning.' Soon enough, the fishes grow calm and lie still. Yet, sad to say, I am always too late. The fishes expire. And because it is evil to waste anything, I take those dead fishes to market and I sell them for a good price. With the money I receive, I buy more nets so I can save more fishes."

评分猜想应该是翻译的缘故，书中硬伤不少。而且作者的语言风格和营造的气氛削弱了很多。谭恩美还是比较适合写中国背景的华裔母女之间的故事，这种灵异小说不太吸引人。
评分看过相关评论之后才知道原来贝塔斯曼已经在中国销声匿迹了，去年五月在武汉的光谷广场大洋百货家乐福超市还见到实体店。不知道现在怎么样了。 书看了一半，搁在了书架上。 实在想不通，蔡骏怎么就可以一个作家的身份去改变另外一个作家的作品。或许那个时候的他也算得上年轻...
评分不知道为什么那么多对这本书的贬低之词。难道我的欣赏水平有问题？或许吧。不过我是很喜欢这本书。无论是封面。还是内容。在大学图书馆读过一遍。又自己买书来重新读。很少喜欢看这种类似游记的书。但它的确吸引了我。不同的风俗。不同的文化。这或许就是旅行的意义。还有旅途...
