The book begins by looking at how architecture acquires meaning through tradition, and concludes with the exoticism of the recent avant garde. Illustrations of particular buildings help to anchor the general points with specific examples, from ancient Egypt to the present day.

说来惭愧,这本书还是刚到瑞士的时候所买；当时为凑足金额免运费，买了一辑5本a very short introduction。我念硕士时看过两本该系列的书，当然都是电子版，感觉相当不错。顾名思义，都是薄薄的小书，可这本architecture放在手边，陆陆续续地看到现在。 书写得很浅显，文笔也很...

結構嚴謹，內容清晰但不豐富，idea明晰有力，但文筆很差。
评分作者的個人風格過於強烈瞭。言必稱希臘，強調建築中的文化成份，卻不顯式地涉及美學。對於非建築的工科生來說，可能還需要一本關於 introduction 的 introduction。國內譯本的名字“建築與文化”比英文名更恰當一些。
