Winterson的語言還是很幽默的，這本書講瞭她的藝術觀，她雖然倡導現代主義，但是她所倡導的藝術觀是有如T. S. Eliot那般需要尊重傳統的。還有評判一部作品應該要看作品本身，而不是去評價作傢。
