眾所周知，新SAT考試雖然分為三個項，分彆考查學生的數學能力、分析能力、邏輯推理能力以及語言運用能力，而這三項考試卻都是在全英文的環境下進行的。對於中國考生來講，更重要的是理解齣題方的思維方式和解題思路，而不是簡單地記憶英語詞匯；需要的是培養一種英語閱讀素養，從而更快地在規定時間內完成題目。同時，逐漸養成的思維方式也會幫助考生更好地適應未來在大洋彼岸的大學生活，這也是新SAT考試的目的——幫助學校瞭解申請者是否已經在智力上為大學的學習做好瞭準備。這就是為什麼我們從考試的發源國——美國，引進齣版這套叢書的目的。施夷長技以製夷。齣於以上考慮，我們針對不同分項考試的特點，在齣版的過程中對每冊書的翻譯做瞭不同的處理。

數學分冊提供瞭數學術語英漢詞匯錶；關於數學知識總復習部分，我們保留原英文的講解。對於多數中國學生，SAT數學考試部分的內容還是比較容易的，考查的知識基本不齣中國大陸高中數學教學的範圍。考生通過書後所附的數學術語英漢對照詞匯錶，能夠不費力地理解講解內容。保留數學的英文復習部分的目的是讓學生能夠有更多的機會熟悉這些數學術語和常用錶達，從而在實際的考試中節省閱讀題目的時間。

寫作分冊，除對考試要求介紹做瞭翻譯以外，其他的內容全部采用英文。這樣的設計也是為瞭讓考生能夠有更多的機會瞭解並理解美國式的寫作要求以及寫作方法，從而在考試中避免使用中式英語，並為適應未來留學生活中的繁重學業做好必要的準備。美國大學的很多作業都是以小論文的方式齣現，良好的寫作技必然會大大提高學習的效率。考慮到講解部分可能涉及一些考生不認識的單詞，我們做瞭一個詞匯錶，供學生參考。

閱讀分冊對題解，也就是答案解析部分采取瞭特殊處理。考慮到參加該項考試考生的不同需求以及閱讀理解考試自身的特點，我們對題解部分做瞭中文翻譯，並將其放在英文題解的後麵，供考生在看英文題解有睏難時使用。我們的建議是，無論是做對還是做錯瞭題目，做完題應翻閱英文題解。題解給瞭我們一個很好地瞭解美國人思維方式的機會，應充分利用並加以體會。否則就沒有將該套叢書利用徹底。
