丹尼尔·埃弗里特（Daniel L. Everett）

曾任伊利诺伊州立大学语言、文学与文化系主任，匹兹堡大学语言学系主任，现任本特利大学艺术与科学学院的院长。

丹尼尔•埃弗里特能够流利地使用皮拉罕语，因长期从事研究皮拉罕语而闻名于世。他在皮拉罕语系统上的发现，既挑战了语言学界权威乔姆斯基的理论，更进一步说明了语言与文化的相互关系。

结构有些乱，但内容还是很有意思的。

前半本是部落文化与丛林生活，后半本是Pirahã这个语言的各种“奇葩之处”。写得还是挺有意思的。中心论点culture shapes grammar的部分例子个人觉得有些牵强，有些描述好像有些前后矛盾（毕竟是大众读物），全书倒是提到了不少在语言学课堂和专著里面不会提及（还没怎么考虑）的high-level linguistic question。除了Chomsky作为反面教材，Van Valin出镜多次，作者似乎还是比较认可RRG的基本思想的。

从田野调查视角去解释语言和文化的关系，介绍风俗的时候很有意思，谁能想到小说的题目竟然是互道晚安的方式呢，介绍语音系统的时候就有些考验专业知识而显得难啃了。皮拉罕语是一门神奇的语言。
