'Backgrounds and Sources' expands on The Quarrel of Tartuffe. Moliere's struggle to get permission to have the play performed and the ensuing controversy is documented in fourteen pieces. 'Criticism' is comprised of reviews and criticism of "Tartuffe". 'Essays' includes nine selections by contemporary scholars. A chronology and a bibliography are included.
