This edition of "Tartuffe" follows in the tradition of Seamus Heaney's "Beowulf" with a new verse translation of Moliere's timeless play by acclaimed playwright Constance Congdon. 'Backgrounds and Sources' expands on The Quarrel of Tartuffe. Moliere's struggle to get permission to have the play performed and the ensuing controversy is documented in fourteen pieces. 'Criticism' is comprised of reviews and criticism of "Tartuffe". 'Essays' includes nine selections by contemporary scholars. A chronology and a bibliography are included.

评分my English literature class required reading material... 文學作品也有時效性啊... 實在理解不瞭這種人物形象過於單一又臉譜化的作品，除瞭當劇本還能有啥子意思...啓濛運動時期很有意義...但是在現在...是為瞭告訴你僞君子無處不在嘛？但是現在的僞君子比Tartuffe難識彆多瞭，所以這個書在這方麵也沒得價值...除瞭語言是rhymed couplets極富韻律感，沒有啥子彆的有趣的地方瞭...
