Students and researchers all write under pressure, and those pressures - most lamentably, the desire to impress your audience rather than to communicate with them - often lead to pretentious prose, academic posturing, and, not infrequently, writer's block. Sociologist Howard S. Becker has written the classic book on how to conquer these pressures and simply write. Wordiness, the passive voice, inserting a "the way in which" when a simple "how" will do - all these mechanisms are a part of the social structure of academic writing. In this new edition, Becker takes account of major changes in the computer tools available today and also substantially expands his analysis of how academic institutions create problems for writers. 在書裏看到瞭自己過去幾年學習英語學術寫作過程中遇到的種種問題。總結一下要點：（1）用平易近人的風格寫作；（2）少用被動句，特彆是缺乏動作主體的被動句；（3）彆給句子加沒用的修飾成分；（3）先寫再改，動筆要快；（4）非要找到完美的寫法纔動筆，隻會增加拖延。

人手必備五星書籍！不知道有中譯沒，比那個小薄冊子什麼如何撰寫發錶論文要好很多呀

很慶幸自己論文的指導老師站在這本書的延長綫上...比起後來很多的Abbott的Digital Paper那本，這本話裏更騷更直接。放齣很多句子的修改過程讓人覺得ok；第一章真太抓眼球瞭，因為自己就是被吐槽的那類人；然後後麵說瞭大佬的成長之路（其實隻要自己當段時間的編輯就立刻明白瞭其中的奧秘）；專業名詞必須有，但句子不能寫抽象。自己作為一個編輯感覺自己的論文能達到這個要求，那麼接下來就繼續祭奠必要的知識吧！
