卢卡斯教授学术成就卓著。他的第一本著作《反抗的征兆：费城的修辞与革命(1765—1776)》．获得美国传播学会1977年度金奖，并获普利策奖提名。此后．又因一系列的重要文章如《美国公共演讲的复兴：修辞学批判的文本和语境》(1988)、《独立宣言的风格艺术》(1990)、《独立宣言的修辞学溯源》(1998)等荣获美国传播学会专题论文年度金奖。
