具體描述
本書從曆史考古學的角度研究新加坡的崛起及其與海上絲綢之路的關係，其論證之嚴謹、史料證據之豐富，是近年來的相關研究中少見的。本書第一部分講述中古時代（1300—1800年，即英國殖民者來到新加坡以前）的新加坡及其周邊海域的興衰史，尤其詳述瞭古代中國與東南亞國傢的文化、經濟交流情況，結閤考古證據與文獻材料，深入探討瞭海上絲綢之路在不同曆史時期為新加坡商業和城市生活所起的作用；第二部分圖文並茂地展示瞭考古成果，對於文物和遺址均做瞭細緻說明。
著者簡介
作者
約翰·N. 密西 (John N. Miksic)，新加坡國立大學考古係兼東南亞研究院教授。主要研究方嚮為東南亞古代貿易、新加坡曆史與考古等。二十世紀八十年代，新加坡缺乏本土考古學傢，密西教授是第一位受邀到本地進行考古挖掘的專傢，曾率領學術團隊在東南亞各國進行大規模考古發掘。著有《菲律賓的祖傳黃金》（Philippine Ancestral Gold）和《東南亞陶器》（Earthenware in Southeast Asia）。
