Considering how modernism evolved in the most celebrated design school in America, this work traces developments at Harvard, whose Graduate School of Design was the home of Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius from 1937 to 1952. It argues that America had initiated its own modern agenda well before the arrival of the European modernist ideology.
