据说英文版《道德经》有很多，这本据说最经典。原因很明显，翻译的简单明了具颇具诗意。其实对有一定英文基础的中国人来说，比阅读中文原版更容易懂。 尽管译者具有多年的道教修行，其实译者本身并不懂中文，而是根据好几版的英文翻译及别的语种翻译为基础精心推敲出来的。 缺点也不少了。除了在翻译中流失的中文的美和更深刻的含义外，有好几个地方简单有点牵强甚至搞笑。比如： 四十六章开头“天下有道，却走马以粪”，翻译成：When a country is in harmoney with the Tao, the factories make trucks and tractors。意思倒恰当，只是一下把你从几千年穿越回了现代。
