PARTI<br > A Senior Boom Just Around<br > The Corner!<br >Over the past 20 years， Americans of all ages have come to realize<br >that our nation s population is aging rapidly. No matter where we<br >go or what we do， we are surrounded by many more older individ-<br >uals than ever before.<br > Many factors have influenced this aging trend: societal and envi-<br >ronmental changes and improvements; medical advancements against<br >deadly illnesses like heart disease， stroke and cancer; and changes<br >in daily health practices， like improved diet， increased exercise， and<br >cessation of smoking.<br > However， for millions of Americans， it is still difficult-- if not impos-<br >sible- to accept or even comprehend the aging of our society， and<br >the ever-swelling ranks of the aged in our midst. In particular， the<br >enormous increase in the Senior population that will occur 15 years<br >from now， when the first of the "baby boom" generation (the 75-<br >plus million babies born from 1946-1964) reach age 65. In the year<br >2011 alone， a whopping 3.5 million of the baby-boomers will turn<br >65， creating one of the greatest waves of "new" Seniors ever expe-<br >rienced in this country.<br > The question arises: Is America already in a "Senior boom" or is<br >it simply experiencing the preliminary shock waves of the real explo-<br >sion..， just around the corner? This is an extremely important ques-<br >tion， because the aging of our society will affect not just older<br >individuals， but the lives of all Americans regardless of their ages. It<br >will have a profound impact--economically and sociologically--<br >on the entire nation.<br >
