PREFACE<br >This book has been written out of my belief that the tenets of faith<br >in Jesus Christ and the gifts of his Holy Spirit， as highlighted<br >throughout the Bible， represent God s solution for the problems we<br >men face today. We can only come to a place of rest in our souls<br >as we grow in faith and begin to truly comprehend that God is able<br >to "supply all [our] need according to his riches in glory by Christ<br >Jesus" (Phil. 4:19).<br > These spiritual riches include the promised Holy Spirit whose<br >aim is to transform us into the likeness of Christ. We see in Scripture<br >that the Holy Spirit generally helps us grow in faith through the<br >application of the Christian disciplines in our life such as prayer，<br >fasting， fellowship， Bible study， and the "gifts of the Spirit."<br > Spiritual gifts are ways the Holy Spirit may choose to manifest<br >himself and demonstrate his presence and power in a person s life.<br >In this regard， I believe that the git~ of speaking in tongues (as a<br >manifestation) is extremely relevant for Christians today， as I dis-<br >cuss more fully in chapter 13. Though not for everyone， I have<br >found that the gift of tongues is one of the means God has of<br >translating us out of our ordinary way of viewing things and into<br >an extraordinary appreciation of how the Lord is able to do more<br >for us than we could ever ask or even imagine (Eph. 3:10).
