The Birth of Tragedy (1872) is a book about the origins of Greek tragedy and its relevance to the German culture of its time. For Nietzsche, Greek tragedy is the expression of a culture which has achieved a delicate but powerful balance between Dionysian insight into the chaos and suffering which underlies all existence and the discipline and clarity of rational Apollonian form. In order to promote a return to these values, Nietzsche undertakes a critique of the complacent rationalism of late nineteenth-century German culture and makes an impassioned plea for the regenerative potential of the music of Wagner. In its wide-ranging discussion of the nature of art, science and religion, Nietzsche's argument raises important questions about the problematic nature of cultural origins which are still of concern today. 评分對尼采來說，生命本身是旺盛的，痛苦的，充滿張力的，在衝突之間達成協調的，跨越阿波羅的理智和蘇格拉底的理性，衊視個人主義，所有人在酒神式的狂歡中痛苦沉淪且呈現齣最本質的美與快樂。In other words, 嗑藥。
评分首先版本很重要，牛津大學版本有長達20多頁的介紹，對理解這本深奧的著作十分有幫助，光是introduction就很有挑戰瞭。作為評價美學的書，本身寫得很美，語言和邏輯上都很精彩。尤其是作為原創的觀點，非常驚人，到今天讀起來還是驚訝於尼采的天賦，雖然有些邏輯確實牽強或者論述不足。另外書簡直魔性，讀的過程中整個人都不好瞭，像腦子裏有Apollo與Dionysus在打架，無法平靜，晚上睡覺都不安穩，直到看到15章，悲劇終於滅亡瞭，纔得到安寜。。需要多讀幾遍，句子太長瞭，原文比周國平的翻譯更好理解點
