Inspired by German horror romanticism and the work of Ann Radcliffe, Lewis produced his masterpiece at the age of nineteen. It contains many typical Gothic elements - seduction in a monastery, lustful monks, evil Abbesses, bandits and beautiful heroines. 评分兩條情節綫脫離稍嚴重，人物過多有點讓人混亂。不過語言流暢自然，一口氣讀下去不帶喘，還算過癮啦。
