Born in 1962 in Chicago, Illinois, USA, John Eichensehr (a.k.a. Ike) graduated from the Ray College of Design, Chicago, in 1984. He also holds an Honors Bachelor of Arts degree in Advertising from the prestigious Columbia College. After receiving his degree from Columbia in 1987, Ike embarked on a worldwide odyssey as a United States Navy photographer. During this time he began to develop the skills that characterize him as a visual artist of deep introspection and intense clarity. Ike is currently based in the cosmopolitan city of Hong Kong, where he runs his own studio, WHITEBOX (www.ikephotography.com), and specializes in fashion, beauty, advertising and portraiture photography. His aim is always to create images that have the power to mesmerize, inspire and leave the viewer with a paradoxical sensation of innocence and sensuality, of passion and spiritual tranquility. His work has featured in international publications such as Black & White, Blue (Australia), Vogue (USA), Elle (China), Style, Prestige, Solitaire, Cover, Bazaar (Hong Kong), and FHM (Singapore).
To the Western eye, Asia's beauty has always been a mysterious blend of the subtle and the impenetrable, the exotic and the sensual. Many aspects of Asian culture are little known in the West. One such facet, perhaps the last uncharted Asian territory, is the female form. Books that cater to a Western interest in the female nude abound. There is, nevertheless, a notable lack of quality publications that represent this genre from an authentically Asian perspective. The goal of this book is to address this lack.
