此書結集班雅明寫於70年前30年代關於各類媒體的批判性文章，主題包括兒童文學、繪畫、攝影、電影、出版、電訊、廣播等等。當中對「現代社會」特質的洞察可謂後無來者。 任何對於藝術的命途、工業世代的文化生產感興趣的讀者都該擁有一冊這結集。
