Westerners seeking to appreciate and understand Chinese art have long felt the need of a fundamental book that explains both the technical means used by Chinese artists and the traditional stylistic modes of artistic expression. In Chinese Painting Style Jerome Silbergeld addresses this need, beginning with a discussion of basic materials and methods and continuing with in-depth studies of the complex paintings created by these methods. 謝柏軻（Jerome Silbergeld），美國著名中國藝術史學者。1974年於斯坦福大學獲得博士學位，現為普林斯頓大學藝術與考古學係榮休教授，曾任唐氏東亞藝術中心主任。在開始普林斯頓的教學生涯之前，他曾在華盛頓大學執教二十五年，擔任過藝術史係係主任、藝術學院院長等職。其研究對象包括中國繪畫、電影、建築與園林等，代錶著作有《中國畫之風格》《山水心靈》《電影中的中國》《身體的疑點》《由裏嚮外》等。
