Westerners seeking to appreciate and understand Chinese art have long felt the need of a fundamental book that explains both the technical means used by Chinese artists and the traditional stylistic modes of artistic expression. In Chinese Painting Style Jerome Silbergeld addresses this need, beginning with a discussion of basic materials and methods and continuing with in-depth studies of the complex paintings created by these methods. 谢柏轲（Jerome Silbergeld），美国著名中国艺术史学者。1974年于斯坦福大学获得博士学位，现为普林斯顿大学艺术与考古学系荣休教授，曾任唐氏东亚艺术中心主任。在开始普林斯顿的教学生涯之前，他曾在华盛顿大学执教二十五年，担任过艺术史系系主任、艺术学院院长等职。其研究对象包括中国绘画、电影、建筑与园林等，代表著作有《中国画之风格》《山水心灵》《电影中的中国》《身体的疑点》《由里向外》等。
