李安宅（1900-1985），人類學傢和藏學傢。河北省遷安縣人。字仁齋，筆名任責。1926年燕京大學社會學係畢業，後赴美國深造。1938年赴甘肅拉蔔楞寺對藏傳佛教進行實地調查，後任教於成都華西大學。1947年到1949年在美英從事研究工作。1950年進藏任教。1963年任教於四川師範學院。1985年逝世。一生專治民族學、宗教學、社會學、藏學的研究，頗有成績。宗教方麵的專著有《藏族宗教史之實地研究》、《拉蔔楞----李安宅的調查報告》、《宗教與邊疆建設》等。

本書是作者對甘南藏區藏傳佛教格魯派（黃教）六大寺院之一的拉蔔楞寺進行瞭三年的實地考察的成果，是國內外公認為通過實地考察和社會調查而撰寫的有關藏族宗教史的第一部傑作。本書在介紹藏族文化背景與曆史概況的基礎上，著重介紹藏族在信仰佛教以前的信仰和早期佛教；格魯派——革新或當權的佛教；格魯派寺院——拉卡楞寺。這部著作雖然是半個世紀以前的舊作，但它是我國對藏傳佛教進行實地考察的一個開端，標誌著一個時代的學術水平。

佛苯在藏之關係與佛道在漢之關係極相似。
评分這書讓人讀的有點難受。本就對佛教藏傳佛教不懂，對傳承係統加之大量的專用名詞，理解起來就更難瞭。其次，作者當時翻譯的時候，眾多人名等和現在普遍用的不甚一緻，加深瞭距離感。在寫作上，前後跳躍，有時候讓人雲裏霧裏的。
