保羅欣德米特（Hindemith,paul 1895-1963）是二十世紀重要的德國作麯教師，先後任教於柏林國立音樂學院（1927、1949）、耶魯大學（1940）、哈佛大學（1949）、蘇黎世大學（1951）何伯剋夏夏季音樂班的高級作麯班（1940），1935年還創辦瞭安卡拉音樂學校。作為著名作麯傢，它在作品中對傳統形式和調性有著高度靈活的處理（然而卻被先鋒派視為一個“極端保守主義者”）；作為教師它認為嚮學生傳授音樂基本原理，使學生尊重每個實用的環節是他的指責，《作麯技法》正是他這一主張的體現。
