著者簡介

萊昂內爾·特裏林(Lionel Trilling, 1905-1975)，20世紀美國著名批評傢，生前為美國哥倫比亞大學著名教授。他繼承阿諾德、利維斯以來的批評傳統，側重從社會曆史、道德心理的角度評論文學和文化，被稱為20世紀中期美國年青一代的思想導師，對當代批評影響甚大。其代錶作還有《自由的想象》、《弗洛伊德與我們的文化危機》、《反對自我》、《超越文化》等。

有很多洞見，但特彆精彩的地方其實也有限，前半部分最核心的東西更像是盧梭和塗爾乾的注腳。後麵談弗洛伊德和薩特的部分沒有細讀，之後補完原始文本有機會再仔細看看。

作者的思路讓我重新認識瞭categorical和protean這兩個詞。隻能迴顧，沒法總結。Being modern entails a mask for authentic self-expression; being human entails locating the authenticating imperative in the weightiness of life.
