Stranger Shores opens with "What is a Classic?" in which Coetzee explores the answer to his own question-"What does it mean in living terms to say that the classic is what survives?"-by way of T. S. Eliot, Johann Sebastian Bach and Zbigniew Herbert. His subjects range from the great eighteenth and nineteenth century writers Daniel Defoe, Samuel Richardson and Ivan Turgenev, to the great German modernists Rilke, Kafka, and Musil, to the giants of late twentieth century literature, among them Harry Mulisch, Joseph Brodsky, Jorge Luis Borges, Salman Rushdie, Amos Oz, Naguib Mahfouz, Nadine Gordimer, and Doris Lessing.

著者簡介

J.M.庫切，1940年齣生於南非開普敦，先後在南非和美目接受教育。他著有十部小說，除此尚齣版有學術論文、翻譯著作和文學評淪。自2002年開始，他定居於澳大利亞。2003年榮膺諾貝爾文學奬。

标题纯属戏仿——借鉴了库切这本文论集子里大多数文章的标题格式。事实上，本书的内容也和标题风格保持了高度一致，真诚，朴实，毫不矫饰。如果不是看译后记中的说明，我还以为这书是由上课的讲稿集结而成的。书里的内容比较驳杂，评论内容也颇为宽泛，时间，地区以及文体的跨...
