有些失望，整本下来重复略多。第一章，Franklin, Hawthorne, Melville, Whitman 的部分比较有收获（因为其他人没怎么读过…）主题：Gods unknown, blood-knowledge, disintegration of self, identity & the individual

无与伦比！我也想写这样的文学批评，可惜我既无如此的才力，亦无如此的气魄 不止是关于文学，全书充满了对美国文化还有男人与女人(这一点其实可以和萧伯纳对比）的洞见，学者雅客绝不能写出这种文字来 首推惠特曼那篇！几年前初读的时候，惠特曼的诗我读的还不很多，这是我读过的第一篇关于他的评论，当时只觉得轰的一下，Wow, this is exactly what I feel！！其实是一篇散文诗
