威廉·達爾林譜 William Dalrymple，蘇格蘭人，在佛斯海灣邊長大。曾為《獨立報》專欄作傢。年方二十二歲便齣版瞭暢銷又備受好評的《在薩那都》，此書曾於1990獲得《約剋郡郵報》的最佳處女作品奬，以及蘇格蘭藝術協會春季圖書奬。1989年他遷居德裏，在當地居住四年，為本書搜集資料並為《星期天通訊》、《觀察者》、《觀察傢》以及《周日時報》等報紙撰稿。曾獲《周日時報》年度英國青年作傢奬。威廉·達爾林普與藝術傢奧利維亞·弗萊瑟結婚，目前在倫敦和愛丁堡兩地居住。

what this book has given me is more than my two and a half years life in India. A great book on Delhi's history. You get a chance to know the fascinating stories behind the chaotic presence.

I wish every city had a travel writer as talented as Dalrymple. It’s among the most amusing and profound books I’ve read in a while, and he wrote it when he was only 25... highly recommended for those traveling to Delhi for the first time.
