Anne的文筆流暢細膩，非常realistic, 錶麵平淡的故事也不乏動人之處。女主角是middle-class woman, 她的雇主屬於upper middle class, 價值觀卻南轅北轍。

勃朗特三姐妹有各自的代表作，在两位姐姐的光环下，安妮·勃朗特就显得有些微不足道了。同样是描写十九世纪英国社会中女家庭教师这一群体的经历，她的书中少了简·爱中的浪漫，多了现实的描写。这算不得是上层的作品，却也是一部英国乡村生活的真实画卷。
