Like many of his generation, Bill Bryson backpacked across Europe in the early seventies -- in search of enlightenment, beer, and women. Twenty years later he decided to retrace the journey he undertook in the halcyon days of his youth. The result is Neither Here Nor There, an affectionate and riotously funny pilgrimage from the frozen wastes of Scandinavia to the chaotic tumult of Istanbul, with stops along the way in Europe's most diverting and historic locales.
不過不得不說,his words are really acute.
Europe never seemed funny until Bill Bryson looked at it." Utterly witty and funny!!
評分always deemed a sense of self-deprecation and a modest dose of snarky observations essential in travel books however cant stand him being excessively paranoid and complaining at any possible chance informative if you want to know what it feels like travelling across Europe as a grumpy tourist
If you have a sense of humor, I bet you'll love this book. I bought it from Chaterhouse Booktraders in Shanghai, and finished it during the New Year holidays. He started this European trip from the northern-most city of Hammerfest, and finished at Istanbul...
