Barrington Moore Jr. (12 May 1913 - 16 October 2005)[1] was an American political sociologist. He is famous for his Social Origins of Dictatorship and Democracy: Lord and Peasant in the Making of the Modern World (1966), a comparative study of modernization in Britain, France, the United States, China, Japan and India, and a philosophical history of totalitarianism. His many other works include Reflections on the Causes of Human Misery (1972) and an analysis of rebellion, Injustice: the Social Basis of Obedience and Revolt (1978).
"A landmark in comparative history and a challenge to scholars of all lands who are trying to learn how we arrived at where we are now."
-The New York Times Book Review
This is a book memo written for the course of Co-evolution of States and Markets taught by Professor John Padgett, from the Department of Political Science, University of Chicago. Prof. Padgett requires that we shall relate the subject of the book memo/revi...
Suffrages were not counted,but weighed. p22 华夏:投票时,财产多少这个因素并没有计算在内,但却又举足轻重的作用。
A true classic and a must read. Comparative studies of England, France, America, China, Japan, India (also Russia and Prussia), and how their different social structures lead to different routes towards industrialization and their eventual political institutional outcomes. Focused upon two main social actors: the landed aristocracy and the peasantry (and their respective response towards the impact of agricultural capitalism and political actions). Discussed about how bourgeois revolutions, conservative revolutions, and peasant revolutions will lead to democracy, fascism, and communism respectively.
评分a true masterpiece.
