思想內容：通過問答形式闡發瞭摒棄現世名利，追求神所恩許的永恒幸福的主張。他認為自然和人所陳設的美並不能增加人的價值，人的真正價值在於對上帝的認同，以及按照上帝所啓示的哲學生活。他痛徹譴責世間的追名逐利和爭權奪勢，厚古非今地鼓勵反樸歸神，同時贊美瞭神聖地聯閤萬物的愛的力量。
著者簡介
羅馬後期哲學傢、政治傢和音樂理論傢。曾任執政官。波愛修認為“種”與“屬”是頭腦在感覺的基礎上加工的結果，共相存在於事物之中，而它本身卻是非物質性的；解釋瞭基督教神學中“三位一體”和神的存在等教義。他將哲學區分為思辨哲學和實踐哲學兩部分，認為邏輯是研究哲學的工具，也屬於哲學。他最早把亞裏士多德的《範疇篇》、《殘篇》等譯為拉丁文傳到西歐。主要著作有《論三位一體》、《哲學的慰藉》、《波菲利（導論）注釋》、《音樂原理》（今存5捲）等。
